EPRDF Council names Hailemariam Desalegn its new leader

Prime minister Hailemariam DesalegnThe meeting of the Council of the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) was concluded Saturday after electing chairperson and vice chairperson for the Front.
Council Executive Committee Member, Bereket Simon told journalists that the Council elected Deputy PM and Foreign Affairs Minister Hailemariam Dessalegn as Chairperson and also named Education Minister Demeke Mekonnen as Vice Chairperson for the Front. Bereket, who is also Government Communication Affairs Office Minister, said the council held a democratic election based on the principle of succession and unanimously elected the Chairperson and Vice Chairperson for the Front. 

The appointees will be sworn in at the inaugural ceremony of the parliament to serve as Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of the country. EPRDF Executive Committee member Redwan Hussein on his part said the late PM Meles Zenawi significantly contributed towards development of the country. 
Redwan said that the Council confirmed that PM Meles was a great and visionary leader, who generated valuable ideas towards development of the organization and also for the success of the ongoing activities towards Ethiopia's renaissance. Redwan said the Council also stressed that the late Premier was a great leader, who laid firm foundation for EPRDF and also the government. (ENA)
