The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has fined
Ethiopia’s football federation $10,000 after the team’s fans threw plastic
bottles, vuvuzelas and other items on the pitch when goalkeeper Jemal Tassew
was sent off for a professional foul during Monday’s 1-1 draw with Zambia at
the African Cup of Nations.
According to Caf’s release: “The Board decided to impose a
financial sanction on Ethiopia amounting to 10,000 USD, nevertheless, the board
decided to suspend 5,000 USD on condition that Ethiopia is not found guilty of
a similar offence until the end of the tournament.”
Goalkeeper Jemal Tassew was also suspended for two matches.
