Lucy (Dinknesh) returns to Ethiopia after five- year tour in United States

Lucy (Dinknesh), the 3.2-million-year-old world-famous fossil, returned home on Wednesday may 1, 2013 after a five- year tour in the USA. On arrival at the Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, Lucy was warmly received by high-level government officials, its discoverer, Professor Donald Johanson, Athlete Haile Gebreselassie and other dignitaries.
Ethiopian government has sent Lucy along with 148 other artifacts of the nation to United states under the project "Lucy's Legacy: The Hidden Treasures of Ethiopia." in August 2007 as per an agreement signed between the Ethiopian Ministry of Culture and Tourism and the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Lucy was discovered by American paleoanthropologist Donald Johanson and his colleagues in 1974 in the Afar region of Ethiopia.
